Types Of Gravity Dam
Types Of Gravity Dams
Gravity dams are of the following types:
1. Rubble Masonry Dams
2. Concrete Dams
3. R.C.C Dams
4. Cyclopean Masonry Dams
Rubble Masonry Dams
The dam in which back and front face of the dam is built coarsed
masonry and the interior filling of Rubble Masonry is known as
Rubble Masonry Dams.
Concrete Dams
The dams made of concrete are known as concrete dams. A good quality
of concrete is used in there construction. A correct water cement ratio
should be maintained through out the construction period to achieve more
strength of the dam. The construction cost of such dam is much higher.
R.C.C Dams
These dams can be constructed on hard as well as soft soils. When
the height of the dam is not much they can be constructed. The
section of the dam will be thinner and therefore the work can be
finished more quickly.
Cyclopean Masonry Dams
A dam having faces of cost masonry and the interior filling of
concrete is known as Cyclopean Masonry Dams. The joints will be
thicker as concrete is used for interior fillings.
